Meet Fr. Jeckonia (Jey) Okoth

The Rev. Jeckonia Okoth brings to Grace Episcopal Church a passion for ministry, community, communication, and building relationships across cultures and generations.

Before coming to Grace, Fr. Jey served as Missioner for Multicultural Ministries for the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, where he worked closely with the Bishop, clergy, congregations, and diocesan leaders to strengthen multicultural and culturally specific ministries. His work included supporting faith communities, developing ministry strategies, encouraging evangelism and discipleship, and helping plant and nurture multicultural and intergenerational congregations.

Fr. Jey earned his Master of Divinity from Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Communication and an Associate Degree in Education from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. He was selected as a Trinity Leadership Fellow for the 2024-2026 cohort, further developing his leadership and ministry through engagement with faith leaders from diverse backgrounds.

An extensive background in communications and journalism complements his path to ministry. For nearly a decade, he worked as a features reporter with The Standard Group in Nairobi, researching and writing stories on health, the environment, religion, and other issues affecting communities. He later served on the Board of Communications for the All Saints Cathedral Diocese of the Anglican Church of Kenya, helping develop communications strategies and coordinate the Archbishop's public communications. While attending seminary, he also served as a communications assistant and official photographer for Church Divinity School of the Pacific.

Throughout his ministry and professional life, Fr. Jey has emphasized listening, collaboration, discipleship, and connecting people across cultural and generational differences. His experience as an educator, communicator, journalist, and priest brings a distinctive perspective to parish ministry and community engagement.

Outside of ministry, Fr. Jey enjoys reading, soccer, fitness, running, photography, and traveling.
